WHY DO PEOPLE RECOVERING FROM DRUG ADDICTION RELAPSE? PART II

September 20, 2026

Winning the battle against drug use is not an easy journey. It is a struggle that requires patience, determination, and a genuine desire to change. For Said Mwinjuma, the journey was far from easy.

After undergoing counselling and treatment at a recovery centre, commonly known as a sober house, Said successfully stopped using drugs. He returned to the community with renewed hope and a determination to start a new life. However, the reality he encountered after returning to the streets was different from what he had expected.

He found himself in a new environment, separated from the surroundings he had been accustomed to, and this presented him with significant challenges. The lack of meaningful activities and the difficulty of breaking away from old habits made his journey even harder. During this period of loneliness and uncertainty about his future, he eventually found himself falling back into drug use.

However, that relapse was not the end of his journey. His determination to completely transform his life remained strong, burning like a flame within him. Said refused to let the setback define him. With great courage, he made the decision to return to the recovery centre for a second time.

This time, Said fought with renewed determination and successfully overcame his dependence on drugs.

Today, Said Mwinjuma is not only a survivor of drug addiction but also a source of hope for others. He is the Director of SEYOLBADA, where he uses his personal experience and testimony to educate the community about the dangers of drug use and how to help save the lives of young people who have lost hope.
